Born in Jerusalem in 1997, Ariel completed his studies at the Royal Academy of Music (RAM) in 2021. In the same year his career took off when he won third prize at the Leeds International Piano Competition. He has since made his debut at the Wigmore Hall and performed widely in Europe and at the Marlboro Music Festival in Vermont. Violinist Charlie Lovell-Jones and cellist Yoanna Prodanova were both offered places on the RAM's prestigious Advanced Diploma Course and now perform internationally as a soloists and chamber musicians.
HAYDN (1732?1809) Piano Trio No. 44 in E major, Hob. XV/28 (1797)
Haydn's thirty piano trios reflect the rapid changes in keyboard instruments as the piano began to replace the harpsichord from the 1780s. The composer's virtuosic late trios exploit the full expressive range of the piano and are considered along with Mozart's concertos to be the most brilliant piano works before Beethoven.
WEINBERG (1919?96) Piano Trio in A minor, op 24 (1945)
Weinberg was a victim of history and endured profound suffering during his lifetime. In this post-war trio not only are there grotesque echoes of war and death but also glimmers of the hope and optimism that illuminated his life.
SCHUMANN (1810?56) Piano Trio No. 2 in F major, op 80 (1847)
In a year of personal tragedy and suffering from depression, Schumann was inspired to write this work of contrasting moods. Its two inner movements introvert and brooding are flanked by passages of transparent lyricism that reveal him at the height of his powers as a composer of chamber music.
