Faith i Branko are back at Bossaphonik with an international 5 piece band delivering their virtuosic Serbian Romani folk for the dancefloor!
Branko Ristic is one of Serbia?s leading violinists and Faith is a supreme talent on accordion, she is originally from Oxford. Alongside them they are joined by a line up of guitar, bass and drums in a high energy ensemble aimed at igniting the dancefloor with their Balkan magic. They will treat us to inspiring Romani rhumbas, fiery ?kolos,? joyous swing and passionate jazz improvisation.
The Faith i Branko story started 15 years ago when Faith travelled to Serbia aiming to further develop her Balkan accordion technique. The duo met in Branko?s Romani village - and with music as their only tool for communicating ? began a musical partnership that would lead to their marriage. From a foundation of Serbian-Roma music the duo have created a style that draws on both their musical heritages and expresses their joint conversation. Their last album ?Gypsy Lover? reached into the top 10 in the world music charts and the band have enjoyed a successful international schedule and an award-winning documentary made about them.
The forthcoming Faith i Branko album will be released on World Music Network (Rough Guides) with recording assistance from Emir Kusturica and the Non Smoking Orchestra. The band have completed a 43-date tour of Australia and New Zealand and have also performed at The Royal Festival Hall, The Southbank Centre, Glastonbury, Boomtown Festival, Wilderness and Bestival. They have also performed at a multitude of venues and festivals accross Europe as well as performing for the Serbian president! They have had their music featured on BBC Radio 3, Radio 4, World Service with Stephen Fry, BBC 6 music and ABC Sydney and have had a feature in the Guardian Guide Magazine.
