Saturday 13th May in St Mary?s Church, sees a special appearance for the Music Circle?s 81st Anniversary concert by the saxophonist and presenter on BBC TV and Radio JESS GILLAM who comes with her ENSEMBLE, a group of seven brilliant musicians from a wide range of musical backgrounds but with roots in classical music. Their collaborations with the major orchestras, ensembles such as the Maggini and Carducci Quartets, together with moves into other genres, are impressive. Jess, who shot to fame becoming the first saxophonist to reach the finals of BBC Young Musician and the youngest ever soloist to perform at the Last Night of the Proms, is now in demand internationally as a performer. She gave a solo performance for the Music Circle back in 2018 to great acclaim, her infectious enthusiasm and passion for classical and non-classical music lighting up every stage. Joined by Ciaran McCabe violin, Sam Becker bass, Elsa Bradley percussion, Michael Jones violin, Leif Kaner-Lidström piano, Eoin Schmidt-Martin viola and Gabriella Swallow, cello, Jess takes us on a journey of musical discovery to inspire and bring joy. The programme ranges from a CPE Bach Flute concerto, John Metcalf?s ravishing arrangement of Sakamoto?s Merry Christmas Mr Lawrence, to extracts from Bernstein?s West Side Story, Histoire du Tango by Piazzolla and John Harle?s exhilarating work ?Flare?. What could be better for an anniversary event!
Doors are open at 7.00pm with the concert starting at 7.30pm. Cash payments will be accepted at the concerts for interval refreshments and programmes.
