Performed by John Watterson (Jake's biographer)
John Watterson aka 'Fake Thackray' presents 'Beware of the Bull' - an evening of the wonderful songs of Jake Thackray, with anecdotes and readings from the first ever biography of the Yorkshire chansonnier.
Leeds-born Jake Thackray (1938-2002) is increasingly recognised as being one of the greatest English songwriters of the twentieth century, a unique talent, whose songs are full of poetry, wit, irreverence and humanity. He became known to millions through his regular appearances in the 1960s and 1970s on programmes such as Braden's Week and That's Life.
The story of Jake's own life is a truly fascinating one, and the first ever biography, 'Beware of the Bull ? The enigmatic genius of Jake Thackray' has been written with the full support of the Thackray family and has been received with critical acclaim.
The show will include performances of many of Jake's most popular songs ? Bantam Cock, Sister Josephine, On Again! On Again! - as well as some 'lost treasures' which have been rediscovered during the research.
A great evening's entertainment whether you are a hardcore Thackray fan or coming afresh to his magnificent songs. Wonderfully witty wordsmithery!
