Description

George Sansome and Sophie Crawford are the duo who created Queer Folk ? an organisation that researches queer music and champions LGBTQIA+ musicians. Using the material they have found in the archives, they now perform queer folk music as a duo! They?ve carried out residencies with Sage Gateshead, the English Folk Dance and Song Society (EFDSS) and Britten Pears Arts and received support from the Alan Surtees Trust.
George?s solo album was one of Songlines magazine?s ?Essential 10 Folk Albums of 2020? and he also plays with BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Award nominees Granny?s Attic. Sophie?s 2018 album Silver Pin was Mainly Norfolk?s 2018 album of the year. Together, they?re spreading queer folk music far and wide!
Sophie Crawford (she/her) is a folk musician and performer from London. She recorded her debut album ?Silver Pin? in 2018 with Oliver Coates and her second album ?People I Have Known? in 2020. She played on the Grammy nominated album ?Amelie the Musical? in 2020 and toured with the show from 2019-2020. As an actor musician she was the first woman to play the Songwoman in ?War Horse? on the West End and has toured internationally with ?Translunar Paradise? with Ad Infinitum. She runs the Harrison Folk Singaround and the poetry and music night and podcast Patterned Ground.
George Sansome (he/him) is a folk singer and guitarist based in Leeds. His debut album was released in 2020 and was listed as one of Songlines magazine?s ?Essential 10 Folk Albums of 2020?. George is a member of BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Award nominees, Granny?s Attic, with whom he has performed across the UK and Europe for over 10 years. He performed in Mick Ryan?s 2019 folk opera, ?Here At The Fair?, and guested (guitar and euphonium) on Pete Morton?s 2020 album, ?A Golden Thread?. In 2020 he was invited by Janis Ian to record for her Better Times project.
Expect a small, friendly, quirky venue with a heart - a bar selling beer, wine and hot and cold drinks and always cake. The venue is accessible, on one level. You will be seated at tables or in rows, according to numbers.
The first hour of concerts is livestreamed on YouTube. You can watch it any time after 7.30 on the night of the concert.
There is usually a floor singer and often a 2-minute community slot informing us of what happens locally. The second half starts with a Q&A and is not livestreamed. The concerts usually finish at 9.30. Please ring for more details. 07902140248
This is a Saturday concert , not the usual Thursday.
