terrace cred. presents:
he may be 'officially retired,' but we've enticed folk / blues (should we add skiffle?) legend Wizz Jones down from Balham to the seaside to dip his toes in the briny and his fingers and tonsils into the intimate performing space that is The Greys.
A rare treat, indeed. Don't wait around for tickets.
From Soho coffee bars in the late 1950's, where he learnt his guitar licks from the likes of Davy Graham and Long John Baldry, to busking the streets of Paris and the markets of Marrakech in the early 60's, Wizz Jones has made a massive impact on the music scene. Inspired by Big Bill Broonzy and Ramblin' Jack Elliot, Wizz Jones developed a style that has, itself, influenced so many, not least John Renbourn, Eric Clapton and Keith Richards - with a nod from Springsteen.
Deep joy here at terrace cred. as we began to talk about this night down in Cornwall, way, way back before that Covidthingy loomed and lurked. So, when Mr Jones got in touch, the other week, this date was fixed. Remembering a very memorable night at The Greys under Mike Lance's tenure, well, Wizz is back (maybe son Simeon will bring his sax along...)!
Can't wait.
