Description

Hereditary Spastic Paraplegia is a rare progressive neurological condition affecting about 1 in 30000 people. The onset is usually in the 30?s but this can vary, and it slowly progresses causing mobility to deteriorate. In later life walking can become impossible and consequently, wheelchairs and mobility scooters become a requirement. When explaining the effects of the condition to her closest friend, a lady in the early stages of the condition said she felt as though her trousers were full of potatoes, making her very clumsy and fatigued. This explanation is where we got the name of the event from.
The Potato Pants music Festival has been taking place since 2015 and it gives me the opportunity to combine two passions. I love the local music scene and having previously been chairman, I'm still heavily involved with the national charity that supports people with HSP. I'm effected with the condition myself and love having the opportunity to raise funds by running the festival featuring our very talented local musicians.
The festival is to raise awareness and funds for HSP. There is currently no cure for HSP. Any funds raised at the festival are used to fund important research or purchase mobility equipment for individuals affected by HSP.
