The Boot Heel Playboys

We are once again delighted that The Boot Heel Playboys are returning to the Country Soul. Formed in 2017, TBHP are a Western Swing outfit in the vein of the seminal Bob Wills & The Texas Playboys. Playing an authentic mix of classic 1940's / 1950's country and western swing dance tunes accompanied by fine originals compositions the Playboys are a "toe tapping, two stepping, be-bopping bunch of a band that sets out to get you dancing"! Featuring founder and chief instigator Phil Morgan on his "Bigsby" steel guitar and vocals, Ewan Penkey on double bass, Chris Haigh on fiddle, Tim Pearson on piano, Tony Hillebrandt on drums, Xav Riley on guitar, Simon Nelson trumpet and Mr Dave Madgewick on vocals and rhythm guitar duties. These well respected and top musicians follow in the giant footsteps of such musical luminaries as Bob Wills and The Texas Playboys, Tex Williams, Johny Lee Wills and other fine Western Swing artists of the day. Come and see this unique outfit do what they do and be sure to bring your dancing shoes!

The Honkabillies

It's always a great thrill for us when The Honkabillies return to play their 1950's groove at the Country Soul. The Honkabillies are a four piece band who mix up Honky Tonk and Rockabilly in the style of Johnny Cash, Hank Williams, Dale Watson and early Elvis. Fronted by Mr Frankie Riedel their music is vibrant and upbeat and this fantastically gifted outfit know how to enjoy themselves and of course entertain their audience. Come and see Frankie (singing & guitar), Frankie Jr (guitar), Claire (drums) & Sam (bass) do what they do.....simply put an essential outfit.

Trader Sam

We are so pleased that singer and geetar player Trader Sam aka Mr Sam Sproule will be making his Country Soul debut at the May Session. Trader Sam will take you back to the glory days of country classics with his celebratory performing of tunes from the Hank Williams songbook marking the 100th birthday of the Hillbilly Shakespeare. Accompanying Trader Sam for this performance will be pedal steel maestro Mr Phil Morgan.
