SID GRIFFIN (solo set) plus THE COAL PORTERS

SID GRIFFIN led indie rock heroes the Long Ryders, credited by many as the founders of alt-country, before relocating to the UK and founding bluegrass outfit the Coal Porters. In January 2022 the Long Ryders received the AMA (Americana Music Association) UK Award for International Trailblazer. In 1984 their album ?Native Sons? reached number 1 on the UK Indie Charts and number 4 in the US. Sid wrote the Long Ryders? hit single ?Looking for Lewis & Clark? and co-wrote ?Everywhere?, covered by Billy Bragg. As well as a singer and songwriter, Sid is a writer, broadcaster and producer. His production credits include Lindisfarne?s 1998 album ?Here Comes the Neighbourhood?. He wrote acclaimed Bob Dylan book ?Million Dollar Bash? and penned the liner notes for the box set of the Basement Tapes. Sid was resident musicologist on BB6 Music?s Radcliffe & Maconie show.

?His intimate acoustic shows are consistently memorable? ~ The Sunday Times

?Sid Griffin was playing Americana years before the term was invented and that pioneer spirit shines on?? ~ Billy Bragg

?A roots music Renaissance man?? ~ Whispering Bob Harris, BBC Radio 2

THE COAL PORTERS claim to be the world?s first ?alt-bluegrass? act, demonstrating the power of fiddle mandolin, banjo, acoustic guitar and doghouse bass when matched with harmonies and memorable melodies. After a four-year hiatus, The Coal Porters reunited in 2022, led by Griffin and featuring on fiddle Grammy winner and Adele string section leader Kerenza Peacock. Their sound has featured on NPR's Morning Edition in the USA, live sessions for Bob Harris on BBC Radio 2 and Marc Riley for Radio 6 Music, and appearances at Glastonbury, SXSW and MerleFest. This gig is a warm-up for their headline spot at the First Light Festival and features Brighton flat-picker George Ryan on guitar.

?Not your average fish & chips bluegrass, the Coal Porters have expanded their music with broad strokes and fearless execution? ~ Chris Hillman (Byrds/Flying Burrito Bros)

?The Coal Porters whisk together a hugely listenable cocktail of bluegrass, folk and country? ~ Uncut
