Duke Garwood occupies a cryptic, murky space within the contemporary musical landscape. Over the course of seven or eight albums, he has evolved an aural language all of his own, rooted in a form of avant-blues, yet increasingly abstract and experimental in structure and tone. Released on taste-making independent labels such as Fire, Heavenly and God Unknown, he remains a marginal figure, an éminence grise known more for his occasional partnership with the late lamented Mark Lanegan or for his mentorship of the also late lamented Savages.

Working either solo or with his small ensemble, his music is fragmented, rumbling, and dreamlike, defined by the thick syrupy sound humming out of the speakers and by the low shadowy murmur of his voice. The music?s shamanic, world-building qualities suggest existential visions of desert and forest, yet operate as amber-hazy narcoleptic fantasies emerging from the bungalows and gardens of suburban southern England.

Intimate and dark, we?re anticipating an evening perfectly matched with the approach to the longest night of the year.
