Where is the Castle are delighted to bring Ali back to Nottingham.
ALASDAIR ROBERTS is quite simply the greatest contemporary artist working within (and without) the folk traditions of the British Isles today. He is a singer, songwriter, outstanding guitar player, collector and collaborator. He is as happy playing 500-year old ballads on his own, as he is playing with the disparate likes of Current 93, Bonnie Prince Billy, Gaelic singer Mairi Morrison, unaccompanied singing group, Green Ribbons, and many more. His own compositions range from tales of Volga Viking burial rites, to surreal accounts of Ned Ludd's revolt. His latest album on esteemed US label Drag City, "Grief in the Kitchen and Mirth in the Hall", is the latest in a series of LPs adapting traditional song that stretch right back to the start of his career, and that effectively form an alternative history of this restless artist.

NICK JONAH DAVIS' first guitar soli gig was opening for Ali at Surface Gallery many moons ago. It seems fitting that he's back, but this time he's plugging in for some ragged electric glory, which sounded amazing at recent shows.

This show will be a Sunday-friendly early-start-early-finish affair. Alasdair's last few shows in Nottingham have been very popular, and his last gig sold out a much larger venue, so advance booking is strongly advised.
