Bossaphonik Presents Resolution 88

Event Type

Genre : Music - Jazz/latin

Description

Bossaphonik enters the realm of cosmic jazz-funk on Friday August 18th as we welcome Resolution 88 ? a band widely hailed as UK leaders in the jazz funk field ? taking an early 1970s blueprint and fusing it with the ultra-modern.

The band are led by virtuosic keyboardist Tom O?Grady who has a deep passion for the silky rich sound of the Fender Rhodes piano. The instrument is central to the Resolution 88 sound and alongside it he also has an array of vintage synthesizers and features in a 5 piece line up made up of drums, bass guitar, sax and percussion. Tom O?Grady draws major inspiration from the funksters of the original 1970s era such as Herbie Hancock & The Headhunters and also the likes of Chick Corea, Lonnie Liston Smith, Don Blackman and more recently, ground-breaking artists such as Kaidi Tatham.

Tom O?Grady has previously played keyboards for acid jazz legends Incognito and since launching Resolution 88 back in 2012, the band have released 3 acclaimed albums and played a wealth of sold out shows all over the UK and Europe. In this time Resolution 88 have supported global acts, the likes of Roy Ayres, Snarky Puppy, Patrice Rushen, The Blackbyrds and Marcus Miller.

Resolution 88 are such immense fans of Herbie Hancock?s music that they have played a number of gigs replicating the classic 1973 ?Headhunters? album note for note at Paris? New Morning club and also London?s iconic Ronnie Scotts. The current Resolution 88 sound will alight the Bossaphonik dancefloor with their funked up cosmic vibrations taking much material from their fusionary 2019 album ?Revolutions? and we?ll also be treated to some brand new unreleased music!

?There?s absolutely no-one at all around like these guys at the moment? The Craig Charles Funk & Soul Show BBC Radio 6 Music

?Wow. Soulful music, played with passion and incredible skill. This harkens to the best funk-jazz of the sixties and seventies and takes it to a new level. Think Headhunters for the new millennium.? Bob Power (Erykah Badu, The Roots, D?Angelo)

?...Revolutions is fantastic, setting a high standard for current UK jazz? Jazz Journal
