Probably the biggest and best of all the original Britfunk bands, Light Of The World took their name from a 1974 Kool and the Gang album. Although they undoubtedly wore their American influences on their sleeves, they gave funk a unique homegrown flavour, stirring up a kinetic cocktail of chanting vocals, choppy guitars, horny horns and bouncing bass. Having released a run of indelible funk classics including Time, Expansions and I Shot The Sheriff, they went on to influence everyone from Spandau Ballet and Wham! all the way through to Jamiroquai and Mark Ronson.
