'Nobody Loves You and You Don't Deserve to Exist' (Brett Gregory, 99 mins, 2022) is a critically acclaimed, multi award-winning working class / art house feature film set in Manchester.
Its hard-hitting semi-autobiographical story follows Old Jack, an grieving ex-English teacher wasting away on welfare benefits, as he takes us on a bleak British journey through the tragic-comic fragments of his shattered past: as a council estate kid in 1984 when Margaret Thatcher was Prime Minister; as a university student in 1992 during John Major's premiership; and as a 50 year old man in 2020 when Boris Johnson was in power.
The film's exceptional cast includes David Howell from 'Brassic', 11 year old Reuben Clarke from 'Peaky Blinders', Wendy Patterson from 'Spencer', Julie Hannan from 'Elizabeth is Missing', Caroline Chesworth from 'Brassic', Margot Richardson from 'Genius', Nicki Davy from 'Man Like Mobeen', Mushi Noor from 'Coronation Street', Sophie Lund from 'Napoleon', Alexandra Maxwell from 'Tin Star', Lucy Avison from 'Coronation Street' and exciting newcomers James Ward, Lisa Maguire and Jenny Owen.
In turn, the film's compelling medieval prog-folk soundtrack was written and performed by Ivor Novello nominated composer, Andrew McCrorie-Shand.
