#music+art presents Ben Michaels, an exciting young cellist with a particular interest in commissioning and supporting new works written for solo cello. He recently won the Keith Harvey Award pesented by the London Cello Society.
Ben began learning cello from his father, Joel Michaels, and later studied with Felix Schmidt and John Myerscough at the Royal Academy of Music (RAM).
He has a degree in biochemistry but decided to establish a career as a freelance cellist and embark on his passion for chamber and contemporary music. The Keith Harvey award is supporting the commission of a set of six short solo works written by a selection of cellist-composers. Ben also plays a baroque five-string piccolo cello, on loan from the collection of the RAM.
Doors 6.30pm for 7pm start. A one-hour recital followed by informal Q & A.
