Two of the most successful and recognisable film scores feature in this exciting concert: the epic 'Superman March' and the main title theme from the original 'Star Wars' (Episode IV: A New Hope). They both showcase Williams? pioneering and thematic writing at its absolute best. Williams truly introduced the world to the idea of specific themes for characters in movies, with the iconic two-note motif from Jaws being a huge overnight success with audiences, before Darth Vader?s Imperial March, Yoda?s Theme and Hedwig?s Theme all became some of the most well-known orchestral pieces in the world.

'Rhapsody in Blue', by George Gershwin, is one of the composer?s best known creations. It was a key composition that defined the Jazz Age and inaugurated a new era in America?s musical history. Composed in less than 5 weeks, the piece features virtuosic piano playing and an iconic opening clarinet glissando and was an instant success. We?re delighted to be welcoming a special guest pianist for the evening.

Sutton?s score for 'War Horse' accompanied the acclaimed National Theatre production which has been seen by over 8 million people in 11 countries. Following the story of horse Joey forming a strong bond with a young boy and then being sold to the cavalry for the war, this suite of music from the play perfectly captures the move from tranquil English countryside to the shattering world of trench warfare.

Our final addition to this mega night of music is Dukas? 'The Sorcerer?s Apprentice'. Already a well known and popular piece, it is Disney?s Fantasia which made this piece so instantly recognisable. Mickey Mouse?s staring role as the apprentice who enchants broom sticks to do his work with disastrous consequences, was actually intended to re-launch the iconic character who?s popularity had declined at the time.
