On Friday 8th December 2023, The Oxford International Brigade Memorial Committee (OxIBMComm) and ?The Mighty Redox? celebrate, in film and in music, the solidarity of the anti-fascist International Brigades of the 1930s. More than 50,000 volunteers from over 50 countries across the world came together in 1936 to protect the Spanish people from the evil tyranny of Hitler, Mussolini and Franco. They were outlawed by the British government who were then busy cosying up to those same tyrants. Three years later their appeasement was unmasked and Britain joined the war that would become WW2.
We will be screening rare film footage of the 7th December 1938 return from Spain of the heroic members of the International Brigades British Battalion. The footage has been renovated and includes a new sound track. The film is about 20 minutes long and there will be opportunity for discussion with members of the International Brigade Memorial Trust, who will also outline the groups new campaign to promote the story of the International Brigades in schools across the UK.
The OxIBMComm are delighted to welcome The Mighty Redox to the stage to get us out of our seats with their distinctive style of half punk/half hippy music, playing upbeat psychedelic blues workouts of pure energy. As veterans of the festival circuit they are consummate professional rockers and the ultimate party band http://themightyredox.co.uk/
