Islet: Soft Fascination Album Launch In Hay-on-wye Event Title Pic

Description

Islet is a Welsh quartet whose free-spirited invention and exuberant intensity is hypnotic, exhilarating and defiantly unique.

Islet have released three studio albums and four EPs. They have been shortlisted for the Welsh Music Prize twice: in 2012, for Illuminated People and in 2020, for Eyelet.

Islet is all about being subsumed in sound, with a fierce urge to challenge, to embrace, communicate, excite and, ultimately, set their audience free. They are following their own course, awash with synthesisers with a rhythmic pulse creating a delicate balance between repetition, volume and the romance of time, an ecstatic experience through music.

?Soft Fascination? is released 29th September on Fire Records. They?ll be performing live shows across the UK around the album?s release this Autumn.

?They blew my mind. It was the perfect mix of experimentation and entertainment, brain and heart engaged simultaneously? Stewart Lee

?Islet are undoubtedly one of the best live bands playing in Britain? Loud & Quiet

"Islet have done the impossible: made avant-garde polystylist art music ludicrous amounts of fun" NME

With support from:

Honddu

Alternative electronic pop duo Honddu (Holly Müller and David Neale) wrap their catchy melodies via a tape machine and create dark exhilarating atmospheres using synth, guitar, violin and vocals.

Records Retrieval Service DJ

Before, in-between and after the live acts is a DJ set from The Records Retrieval Service. Usually, this is a radio show from Henry Widdicombe. The Records Retrieval Service supplies the best new music and just records that Henry wants to play based on his mood that particular day. The Globe at Hay Profile Pic

Description

The Globe at Hay is an independent arts centre, embracing an ever changing arts landscape.

In 2008, Hilary Lawson, an already long standing resident of Hay-on-Wye, saw that the Methodist Chapel at the end of town was up for sale. Thinking that this uniquely creative town would benefit hugely from access to a gamut of arts and events, the globe was founded.

Believing firmly in the ‘Town of Books’, and its community, the globe pledges to invest in making a space where all can come together to share in culture and expression. We want to ensure that being based rurally is no barrier to exceptional events. In our programme you will find films, live music, talks & debates, workshops, art exhibitions, courses and schools’ opportunities. We believe that in a small community like Hay-on-Wye, an arts centre has a duty to work with its audience and listen to feedback so that the programme is always diverse and relevant.

Year round we showcase talent found on our doorstep and we are proud that we have a local audience drawn from the town, as well as people that travel from further afield. Over 10 days in May, when the world turns its attention to Hay-on-Wye for the festivals, the globe at hay is the home to the internationally renowned music and philosophy festival, HowTheLightGetsIn.

We have an education programme that focuses on creating work that encourages students and teachers alike to explore big topics through creative and experiential workshops. The globe is particularly committed to ensuring that our work has an impact on hard-to-reach young people, and this means that we are always exploring new funding streams to carry on this work.

At the globe you will find our cosy and welcoming cafe, run in collaboration with our Globe Kitchen. We celebrate food that is sourced and cooked sustainably, allowing our menus to evolve with the seasons. Not only do we support the local rural economy, we are certain you will find our menu utterly delicious!

The globe at hay exists to ensure that audiences from both near and far can find exemplary arts and events, in this unique and rural location. We look forward to welcoming you soon.
