Scott Hepple and The Sun Band are a Newcastle band purveying their own brand of psychedelic rock. On their debut album Ashes To Wildflower, the opener, Letting Go, a song that introduces the set with an uplifting clarion call guitar riff that starts up like the dawning of the day and builds up to a crashing wall of noise, sets the scene with its clear Neil Young influences. Mr Young is one of Hepple?s main influences, along with Black Sabbath, The Beatles, and Ty Segall, but it is not just these bands that influenced him, it?s the whole rock 60s/70s sound and, by recording this album in analogue with Maximo Park?s Duncan Lloyd (the mastering was done by Chicago-based engineer Carl Saff), they have created an authentic sonic creation from those years. The analogue recording creates a 70?s vibe with power, urgency, and a rawness to the instruments..
