The Blazing World offers a new history of revolutionary England in the 17th century. The century began with the Gunpowder Plot and ended with the Act of Union bringing England and Scotland under one monarch. In between, for a brief period, England was a republic - the only time it had its own written constitution. Was this where modern England actually began?
