Sir Christopher Hatton was a leading courtier during the reign of Elizabeth I. He was certainly her a member of her Privy Council; he may have been a closet Catholic; he made Kirby Hall in Northamptonshire one of the great Elizabethan houses, bankrupting himself in the process.
