Grampian Concert Orchestra, under Tim Tricker, is delighted to be back in the gorgeous surroundings of Mannofield Church for an uplifting programme of French music to round off the Winter season.
? Saint-Saëns Cello Concerto no. 1 Op. 39 (soloist: Hattie McGregor)
? Chabrier ? ?Fête Polonaise? and ?Danse Slave?
? Gounod Symphony no 2 in Eb major
The star of the show is undoubtedly going to be the talented young cellist from Ross-shire, Hattie McGregor, who will perform the famous (and tremendously demanding), cello concerto no. 1, by Saint-Saëns.
This will be preceded by two thrilling excerpts from Chabrier?s ebullient opéra-comique, ?Le Roi malgré lui? (The Reluctant King); the ?Danse Slave? (Slavonic Dance) and the Fête Polonaise (Polish Festival).
In the second half of the concert, we will present one of Charles Gounod?s most accomplished works, his second symphony, which combines some Beethoven-like touches with a wonderful, Gallic, joie-de-vivre in the last movement.
