Description

Iain Matthews first gained attention as a founding member and vocalist for the innovative Fairport Convention?s first three albums, changing the voice of folk music in his country. He moved on to create Matthews? Southern Comfort, exploring his interest in American music. They had a No 1 hit in the UK with Joni Mitchell?s ?Woodstock?. Never one to stand still for very long Iain moved on during the 1970?s with another group, Plainsong. An ensemble that allowed Iain to blossom as a songwriter and acoustic guitarist ? supported by his ex-Fairport mates Sandy Denny and Richard Thompson both in the studio and in Richard?s case on tour. Between his own solo recording and various Plainsong line-ups Iain released ten albums to critical acclaim including another well known Top Ten US hit with the single ?Shake It?.

During the early 1980?s Matthews turned towards the business side of musicas a rep for Island Records, but was persuaded by Robert Plant of Led Zeppelin to get back to making music. He returned to the USA for more solo work and Plainsong records. During this period he recorded a wonderful version of Peter Gabriel?s ?Mercy Street?, contributed to a Phil Ochs?s Tribute album and recorded plus toured with Nanci Griffith. Next he released another respected record with the somewhat sarcastic title ?Excerpts from Swine Lake?.

In 2000 Matthews settled in the Netherlands and found a busy, happy life in Europe with more touring of the UK and continent. Yet more well received collaborative recordings were issued including a Tribute album to Sandy Denny. Since then Matthews has found one of his most sympathetic musical companions the pianist Egbert Derix. However Matthews feels he has finally found an almost perfect musical sweet spot, playing solo, in support of his most recent solo album ?A Baker?s Dozen?. As his 50 years (can this be true) in the business prove, things do come around again and again?. and Iain Matthews, guitar in hand and songs springing from his muse, is available for bookings..

PLUMHALL (Michelle Plum and Nick B Hall) are critically-acclaimed songwriters from the UK, using a mesmerising combination of acoustic and electric instruments (occasionally with electronica) to create breathtaking soundscapes to their powerful original songs. They are renowned for their exquisite vocal harmonies and excellent musicianship.

?

Their two studio albums, 'Thundercloud' and 'The Ghost of Noise', earned the duo many plaudits including a ?Hidden Gem? award from The Guardian/Observer. From the alt-country sound of the debut to the electronica and found sounds of the follow up, the band have proved that they can fuse classic songwriting with genre-hopping studio experimentation. Their third album is currently in production and promises to be their strongest yet.

?

PLUMHALL's live prowess has seen the duo invited to sing onstage with Al Stewart on several occasions, including unforgettable appearances at London?s Palladium and Cadogan Hall. They have also performed alongside other such luminaries as Larry Campbell (Bob Dylan guitarist/Levon Helm producer/instrumentalist), Phil Beer (Show of Hands) and many more. Both Michelle and Nick have separately toured internationally as members of Chumbawamba/Chris Norman Band and Magna Carta respectively.

?

In 2018 Nick and Michelle caught the attention of film-maker Richard Heap, who asked them to write an original song for, arrange live acoustic music for, and appear in the 2020 international feature film The Runaways.

?

The duo have achieved incredible success during lockdowns by holding livestream shows, which brought together a worldwide online community that supported one another throughout the crisis. This same community helped to create a stunning accompanying video for PLUMHALL's song 'A Darkness That Won't Leave The House', which was featured on the late Janice Long's BBC show.

?

PLUMHALL are constantly evolving and perform usually as a duo or also occasionally as a three-piece with their producer David P Crickmore (of Fiat Lux) on bass, vocals and electronica. The trio has the power of a rock band and can fully recreate the sound of the ?Ghost Of Noise? album live.

?

PLUMHALL use PINEGROVE guitar straps. Nick proudly plays MARTIN guitars.

PLUMHALL toured as the special guests of FAIRPORT CONVENTION on their 2024 Wintour.
