Join us at St John's for a concert presentation of Ravel?s L?Heure Espagnole, a French one-act comedic opera, featuring five talented young opera singers at the start of their careers.
The opera is set in Spain in the 18th century and is about a clockmaker whose unfaithful wife attempts to see other men while he is away, leading to them hiding in, and eventually getting stuck in, her husband?s clocks.
In the short first half our conductor Chris Stark will explain the story and introduce the characters with musical examples and after the interval we will perform the full one-hour opera. As the opera was written in French, we will have a screen so that everyone can understand what the characters are singing.
Our talented cast:
Torquemada, a clockmaker played by Guy Beynon
Concepción, Torquemada?s wife played by Phoebe Rayner
Gonzalve, a student poet played bv Jack Dolan
Ramiro, a muleteer played by Michael Temporal Darrell
Don Iñigo Gomez, a banker played by Dominic Felts
Conductor: Chris Stark
Assistant Conductor: Olivia Tait
Leader: John Crawford
Whether you are new to opera and curious about what it?s like or you?re already a fan, this will be a lovely early evening event!
