Description

A wonderful opportunity to visit the dairy farm that Elliot Woolford records in his fascinating diaries, 1896-1940, and today provides a dedicated supply of milk to Waitrose Supermarkets.

Elliot and his brother Rowland acquired the tenancy of Hook Farm in 1899 from the 5th Viscount Bolingbroke. In 1930 Elliot was able to purchase the farm when part of the Bolingbroke estate was sold by the Viscount's widow, Mary in 1930. The Woolford family remain there to this day and currently keep about 550 cattle there of which 280 are milking cows producing over three and a half million litres of milk per year.

Discover how the farm has diversified to stay sustainable and the Woolford family?s  commitment to continue milk production, and rise to the challenge and great changes that are required as we head towards the "net-zero" future.

The tour includes homemade refreshments on site thanks to the hospitality of Mr James Woolford.

NOTE   Parking is at Hook Farm Cottages which are signed off Hook Street. Sensible footwear advised.
