David?s talk will draw from his latest history publication ?The Official History of GCHQ Bude,? copies of which will be on sale at this event.
Since October 2020, David has been the Historian of the Government Communications Headquarters (GCHQ) organisation, one of the three main United Kingdom intelligence agencies alongside MI5 and MI6. This visit will be a return trip to Bude for David. Last July he helped to launch the Castle Heritage Centre?s new exhibition ?From Squadrons to Satellites.? This explains and illustrates the history of GCHQ and cryptography, also highlighting the wartime use of RAF Cleave before the site?s gradual post-war transformation into what is now GCHQ Bude. The exhibition is planned to continue its successful run in The Castle until December this year.
