Cambrian Records presents a joint headline show to celebrate the release of new albums from David Ian Roberts and duo Toby Hay and Aidan Thorne.
While always connected in spirit to the work of the great 20th century folk guitarists and singer-songwriters, with influences such as Nick Drake and Elliott Smith, David Ian Roberts' music can always be traced back to the solo guitar and vocal performance.
"A quiet masterpiece - one of the albums that I'll cherish in the future" Mark Radcliffe - BBC Radio 2
"An intimate performance of astounding artistry. RnR
"Beautiful and very hypnotic" Guy Garvey - BBC 6Music
"A quietly exceptional album" UNCUT
In 2021, guitarist Toby Hay & bassist Aidan Thorne headed to the studio to make an album of new music, the inspiration being the things they missed most due to the restrictions of the pandemic. They focussed on improvisation and the timbre of acoustic instruments in real spaces. The yearning for the energy one can get from live performance with a fellow musician drove the project forward. They will be performing material from their new album and improvising new pieces.
"This is the sign of a master musician? Folk Radio
?Dreamy, elusive, and appears to have all the time in the world.? Songlines
?Aidan Thorne?s cascading notes on the bass were enough to give you pause, make you hold your breath. ?

The Globe at Hay is an independent arts centre, embracing an ever changing arts landscape.
In 2008, Hilary Lawson, an already long standing resident of Hay-on-Wye, saw that the Methodist Chapel at the end of town was up for sale. Thinking that this uniquely creative town would benefit hugely from access to a gamut of arts and events, the globe was founded.
Believing firmly in the ‘Town of Books’, and its community, the globe pledges to invest in making a space where all can come together to share in culture and expression. We want to ensure that being based rurally is no barrier to exceptional events. In our programme you will find films, live music, talks & debates, workshops, art exhibitions, courses and schools’ opportunities. We believe that in a small community like Hay-on-Wye, an arts centre has a duty to work with its audience and listen to feedback so that the programme is always diverse and relevant.
Year round we showcase talent found on our doorstep and we are proud that we have a local audience drawn from the town, as well as people that travel from further afield. Over 10 days in May, when the world turns its attention to Hay-on-Wye for the festivals, the globe at hay is the home to the internationally renowned music and philosophy festival, HowTheLightGetsIn.
We have an education programme that focuses on creating work that encourages students and teachers alike to explore big topics through creative and experiential workshops. The globe is particularly committed to ensuring that our work has an impact on hard-to-reach young people, and this means that we are always exploring new funding streams to carry on this work.
At the globe you will find our cosy and welcoming cafe, run in collaboration with our Globe Kitchen. We celebrate food that is sourced and cooked sustainably, allowing our menus to evolve with the seasons. Not only do we support the local rural economy, we are certain you will find our menu utterly delicious!
The globe at hay exists to ensure that audiences from both near and far can find exemplary arts and events, in this unique and rural location. We look forward to welcoming you soon.
