Shenanigans Music present Stourbridge beat combo Flying Ant Day launching their 4th album, ?Biff! Baff! Boeuf!?. The intriguing title came from the memory of an old TV advert in the recesses of singer Bodmin Moore?s mind. We don?t like poking around in there too much but feel free to ask him about it at the gig.
Recorded and produced by the maestro Sean Lloyd at Claptrap the studio, it features guest appearances from their friends Toby Kinder (French Boutik, Tiny Flaws), Cal Doonican Callaghan (Robot Radio) and Brendan Moran (Full Pelt, The Humdrum Express). The 15-track album features songs familiar to anyone who has seen the band live over the past 2 years plus the bonus track, last year?s ?Christmashit?.
For a special gig, we need some special guests so, after a very successful gig with FAD last summer, we are delighted to welcome back to Stourbridge The Deep Six. They have recently released their 3rd album ?Looking for Tuesday Jones? on Heavy Soul Records which is now available on vinyl as well as CD. For anyone who?s not familiar with the band, I can?t put it better than this from their record label.
?Take half of '80s Mod legends MAKIN' TIME, add a thoroughbred guitar section on lead and bass and you have the melting pot of genius that is THE DEEP SIX. MARK 'SYD' McGOUNDEN wrote, sang and played guitar on many of the leading 1980s Mod band Makin' Time's classic tracks that appeared on ace LPs like 'RHYTHM & SOUL' and 'NO LUMPS OF FAT OR GRISTLE GUARANTEED', all kept in time by NEIL CLITHEROE'S impeccable timing on the drums, and with new recruit ADE MARTIN combined with NIALL KEOHANE on bass, the quartet provide a powerhouse of 60s pop mixed with Psyche and Beat that make the band one of the most popular on the live circuit today.?
Doors open at Claptrap at 8.00pm, first act on at 9.00pm.
We really really like music. We like putting on music events. We also really really like really nice people so we opened an independent venue to give a home to good live music and generally lovely folk. We span many genres. All of them in fact - at least we’re trying to - yes, even Jazz!
We’re friendly, cosy, alternative and intimate. We are a music venue for musicians.
We also do poetry nights, quizzes...you get the gist.
We much prefer original bands. We don’t mind a few covers thrown in but unless you’re offering something quite bonkers & original then it’s generally a no for covers.
Claptrap is 1st floor venue & bar, catering for live music, entertainment, theatre, poetry, quizzes & jazz. (Occasionally hired for private functions).
Not your usual venue - it has Chesterfield sofas, wingback chairs and frilly lampshades aplenty!
An extensive range of bottled and canned craft beers are available incl. Kona, Mongozo, Beavertown, Dark Arts, Siren, Wild Beer Co.
On draught - Freedom 4 Lager, Freedom Pale Ale, Thatchers Old Rascal Cider.
