Mancbeth Stage Show With Octavia Freud & The Weird Sisters Event Title Pic

Description

Shakespeare meets 90's Manchester club scene in a brand new musical stage show based on David Lemberg's screenplay, 'Mancbeth' which updates Shakespeare's tragedy to a fictional acid house nightclub called Glam-iz in early 90's Manchester.

The soundtrack to the club is provided by live music performed by 'Octavia Freud & The Weird Sisters' who are an Oxford & Manchester based music collective. Their sound combines Octavia Freud's electronic production with an array of vocal talents from the Oxford music scene, including Emma Hunter, Mila Todd, The Bobo, Cate Debu from The Subtheory, Pet Twin and Kate Hicks.

They will be launching their debut concept album, 'Mancbeth' with this special live music, visual and theatrical performance piece at Modern Art Oxford.

Macbeth is now the owner of Glam-iz nightclub with his wife and resident DJ Lady M and they are plotting to murder their crime boss Duncan, blame it on his security and take over the drug running across the city to become the new King and Queen of Manchester.

Musician Octavia Freud plays the role of a fictional DJ who warms up the crowd at Glam-iz nightclub and gets to see Macbeth's scheming ways behind the scenes. He manages to survive to tell the tale, and following Macbeth's demise decides to record an album of songs recounting these strange events. He agrees to appear on a Mancbeth TV special hosted by legendary Factory records boss and TV music journalist Anthony Wilson.

Actor and producer Brian Gorman reprises his performance as Anthony Wilson from New Dawn Fades at The Royal Northern College of Music.

As the cameras role, we begin to learn the depths of Macbeth's ambition to become top dog in Manchester and the tragic self-deception he's prepared to take in order to believe the strange prophecies from the three weird sisters who work as barmaids at Glam-iz. This radical vision of Macbeth depicts him as club owner, drug dealer and murderer and reflects the true life events in Manchester's music scene as the second summer of love came to a crashing end with the closure of The Hacienda club; the rise of drug gangs and guns on the streets.
