More about the Safer Spaces project:
YWMP is running a 2-year project funded by Youth Music that will create a policy with procedures on how to make live music venues safer and more accessible for all demographics, particularly marginalised groups.
The Safer Spaces Exchange involves 5 events in collaboration with partners from 4 other cities: Girls Rock London, Where are the Girlbands (Liverpool), Destiny Shore of Co-op Live (Manchester), and Music House (Leeds).
Each event will be hosted by YWMP Director Zahra Haji Fath Ali Tehrani in conversation with community stakeholders around safer spaces. The events will also showcase new live local music.
Following the events, a steering committee will create a Safer Spaces Policy that addresses the safety issues that frequently occur at live music events. The policy will take into account outcomes of the conversations held at these events, and will be further developed through research and conversations with key stakeholders including venue owners, promoters, musicians and other organisations campaigning for safer spaces.
Next year, YWMP will be back to trial the Safer Spaces Policy at 5 events in the same cities.
