A new collaborative project which breathes fresh life into 19th century strike and industrial songs of the North of England. The Yorkshire-based collective?s self-titled debut album brings together long-untouched archive material from the British Library, carefully recrafting these old songs for the modern audience. It was a keen interest in working with these long-untouched ballads which initially drew the band together. The band consists of, Alice Jones (harmonium, piano, body percussion, whistles, vocals), Simon Robinson (banjo, dulcimer, vocals), and Katy Ryder (flute, whistles, guitar, saxophone, vocals) and Pete Dilley (bouzouki, guitar, dobro, vocals).
With subject matters ranging from strikes, mining disasters, the tough nature of factory work, and fear of future technological advancement further reducing the need for skilled labourers the broadside song sheets tell, ?human stories from an industrial age?.
