Karen & the Cellar Katz are based in the High Peak, Derbyshire, and perform across the local area including Stockport, Manchester, Derbyshire and Cheshire. Playing music from the 1940's & 50's, - Jazz, Swing and Rock'n'Roll there will also be some harmony singing in the Andrew Sisters style.
The current band line-up is Karen Heywood - lead vocals, Dave Chisholm - lead & rhythm guitar, Lawrence Hill - bass guitar, Phil Minshall - drums & percussion & Dave Ashley - tenor sax & keyboards
Karen began performing in Hamburg during the '70's with folk bands 'Lantern Pike' & 'Moggy McGlone'. She was spotted by Drafi Deutsche and subsequently signed up as a recording artist for CBS. She had a hit record with 'You Better Stop Me Now'. Since the 90's she has been lead singer with local folk rock bands 'The Major Clangers' and 'Left at the Lights' and more recently, 'Heartlanders'.
Dave Chisholm has had many years performing experience including appearances at blues festivals in the North West. He, Lawrence and Dave Ashley also play in local jazz band 'Kinder Blue'.
Phil has supported acts including Humphrey Littleton, Keith Pendlebury & Zenith 6 which led to a spot on BBB TV.He has played at various venues and festivals in the UK and abroad. He had been drummer for 'Diagnosin' the Blues', Meddlin' Relatives', 'Satellite', 'The Random Lurchers', 'Heartlanders' and 'Louisiana Highway'.
