THANK (Box Records / Zen F.C.)
?Mischievous agit-rock philosophers.?
Steve Lamacq, BBC Radio 6 Music
?Bringing noise rock kicking and screaming into the volatile 2020s.?
JR Moores, The Quietus
The Rock Band Thank From Leeds? concoction of anxious disco grooves, harsh noise freakouts and inscrutable sprechgesang bluster was borne out of their hometown?s notorious - and now sadly defunct - DIY collective CHUNK.
The band?s debut full length ?Thoughtless Cruelty? was released via Box Records and Exploding In Sound in February 2022, and then swiftly reissued by Crackedankles after the initial vinyl run sold out almost immediately.
Their new ?Torture Cube / Dead Dog In A Ditch? 7? sees Thank become the latest act to release music on Yard Act?s Zen F.C. label, and the boys come through in ferocious form. Post-punk guitar fury is filtered through Nine Inch Nails? industrial metal and Full of Hell?s blunt-force hardcore, plus a healthy dose of humour fed by the likes of donk pranksters Lobsta B and DJ Fingerblast.
Aside from the 7? release, 2023 was a busy year for Thank. They embarked on their third tour of mainland Europe in February, joined Yard Act for a sold out show at Manchester?s Albert Hall in April, and toured England in July, including a headline show at Leeds? infamous Brudenell Social Club. In September they toured Ireland for the first time, including closing out Clonakilty International Guitar Festival at the world famous DeBarra's Folk Club, following in the footsteps of Thurston Moore, Gilla Band and others.
FASHION TIPS
"...pretty essential if you hold a candle for that lurid, sometimes sordid synth-heavy strain of post-hardcore that proliferated in the late 90s and early 00s via labels like Three One G, Skin Graft and Gold Standard Laboratories" - The Quietus
North East dance punks Fashion Tips have made a name for themselves locally over the last 18 months, working primarily in the medium of fuzzed out bass grooves, cracked machines and jacked electro beats, topped with hysterical, sarcastic vocal sass and sheets of mangled guitar chaos. Releasing their debut EP ?Fucking Hell? in 2023, the band has already gone on to share stages with the likes of Mclusky, Greg Puciato and Ian Svenonius. With a full-length, ?I Wish You Every Success?, slated for summer release via London noise rock impresarios Human Worth, and a string of UK dates booked this year, it?s difficult not to sense the sincerity in the band?s cryptic mission statement - ?twenty four, we go to war?
