Join us for an evening of groundbreaking music as the award-winning saxophonist, composer, and arranger Asha Parkinson plays music from her eagerly anticipated second album, Possession, released under Ubuntu Records. Known for her "genre-busting" approach that's been widely praised, Asha's music blurs the lines between musical traditions, offering a sound that is unique and deeply resonant.
From the tender age of 12, Asha has led her own band, demonstrating versatility that spans jazz, blues, soul, and beyond. Whether it's delving into the experimental music of John Zorn, performing her own saxophone concerto with a classical orchestra, or improvising alongside musicians from Middle Eastern, Indian, or Flamenco traditions, Asha's talent is undeniable and captivating.
In 2017, Asha founded Kalpadruma, an innovative project that seeks out the thrilling intersections of Jazz, Contemporary Classical, Flamenco, Mediterranean, Arab, and Indian music. This concert will feature a quartet formation under the Kalpadruma banner, showcasing a blend of Asha's cross-genre work that has mesmerised audiences across the UK and at prestigious events including the EFG London Jazz Festival.
