On Friday 19th July Basil Gabbidon (founding father of British reggae legends Steel Pulse) brings his band to JJJ for an evening of Reggae, Roots & Trojan ... or as they put it, a band "hell bent on providing the audience with a good time with their fusion of reggae, rock and ska styles meshed along with catchy rhythms and soulful harmonies".
Led by Basil Gabbidon, founding member of Steel Pulse, one of the biggest Reggae bands to come out of Birmingham and the UK, GABBIDON makes sure that Reggae music remains live in Birmingham, the UK, Europe and Worldwide with a band featuring legendary Burning Spear bassist Paul Beckford, Karimah (Vocals), Catherine Beroard-Gabbidon (Vocals),GG (drums), Cherrie Morrison (Backing Vocals) and Shaik Faisal Ahmed (Keyboards).
Basil Gabbidon has had a varied and successful career in Reggae music as lead guitarist, singer and songwriter for the last 4 decades after teaching himself the guitar when he was 14 after hearing Nimey?s song ?Blood and Fire? and the ?Catch A Fire? album by Bob Marley and the Wailers. Whilst in secondary school, he formed the world-renowned band Steel Pulse with his schoolfriend David Hinds and recorded the first 4 albums (Handsworth Revolution, Tribute to the Martyrs, Caught You and True Democracy).
Basil toured with Steel Pulse for 7 years playing alongside Bob Marley and the Wailers, Third World, The Stranglers, The Police, Lee "Scratch" Perry, and many more. After leaving Steel Pulse, Basil has recorded a total of 6 albums, experimenting with new ideas and new sounds whilst still maintaining the Steel Pulse flavour: don't miss what promises to be a great night of reggae from one of its pioneering forces.
