African Gnawa: Chant, Rhythms & Dance

Event Type

Genre : Music - General

Description

The deep trance power of the ancient Moroccan Gnawa repertoire connects elements of the Arab music of the North and the music of sub-Saharan Africa with Sufi mysticism.

Mohamed is an energetic & engaging workshop leader who has worked with notable organisations such as SOAS, Plymouth?s Barbican Theatre & DAN (Diverse Artists Network).

The workshops educate on Gnawa traditions, the music, rhythms & rituals. In this workshop participants will be able to join in on call & response singing, clapping patterns & 6/8 rhythms with the krakebs (metal castanets) that are provided. All are welcome.

You can see Mohamed perform with his band Tagna Groove at the Migration Matters Festival closing party.
