In this dramatic story woven from a Russian myth and a Hebridean folk tale, a young hero?s courage and resolve are sorely tested and a life hangs in the balance. Richard?s vivid telling is enhanced by beautiful melodies played by Liz on the lever harp.
?The Black Horse? combines several versions of The Firebird story with a closely related tale collected on the Isle of Barra in the Outer Hebrides.
Of course there?s a villainous grasping king, and necessarily, a princess, but one who reveals a surprising twist to her character.
Richard York runs Northampton?s ?Storytelling at the Feast of Fools? as well as telling stories at heritage sites and for events; as a traditional and historical multi-instrumentalist, music is always a part of his performances.
Liz York, another multi-instrumentalist, sings, and plays mainly harps, which she has played for weddings, ceilidhs, music therapy work, and much more.
They have both played in major heritage sites, in village halls, and many places between.
