Cypriot guitar player Aris Constantinou joins us in Coventry for a night of jazz.
Constantinou Aris (electric guitar) was born in 1998, Limassol and comes from Cyprus and Serbia. He received his bachelor?s degree in music, from the University of Nicosia (2021), while before playing jazz he had training in classical guitar.
He took classes with some of the top jazz musicians in Cyprus, inside and outside the university. He started playing live jazz standards with different bands since 2019 and participated in festivals such as Friends Across Borders (Kyrenia, 2019), Make Music Festival (Nicosia, 2021).
Aris follows the philosophy of that music consists mainly of three parts: rhythm, melody, and harmony. Much of his harmonic knowledge and understanding follows the rules of Barry Harris school, that was introduced to him by his college teachers (Charis Ioannou and Dimitris Miaris).
His sound and melodic material is deeply influenced by bebop horn players, as well as great swing guitarists such as Charlie Christian and Barney Kessel. Apart from constant studying and transcribing his favorite jazz masters, he follows one rule while he?s on the bandstand, that is to Swing at all times.
