Description

To celebrate the 15th anniversary of Podrophenia, we are holding a special club night at Twenty One, Southend seafront.

Dance to the eclectic tunes and bangers spun by Mondo and Piley, plus there will be a live performance from Billy Reeves.

An extension will keep the night rolling until 1am.

Full bar and pizza available!

Podrophenia started in July 2009 with a regular(ish!) home recorded podcast. Within a year the show had been picked up by S6 Radio (later Chance Radio) for a weekly live version. After a couple of years Podrophenia moved to Radio Nova Lujon for a monthly show. For the last 10 years the show has been broadcast on Ship Full of Bombs.

During the last 15 years, there have been a number of Podrophenia live nights, mostly at the much missed Railway Hotel in Southend. All of which were sold out affairs. This anniversary live night looks to bring back the magic of those club nights at the Railway, bringing together people past and present.

Billy Reeves is the perfect guest for this celebration. He has been involved with Podrophenia in many ways over the last 15 years. As the lead singer of Thee Faction he headlined 2 sold out Podrophenia nights at The Railway Hotel in Southend. As a member of Thee CC's he was part of the third single released on the Podrophenia record label. He has also been a guest on the show many times and has often given us world exclusives plays of new tunes.

In 1996 Billy Reeves formed the indie-band Theaudience, (featuring Sophie Ellis-Bextor on vocals). Theaudience quickly established themselves in the Camden scene of 1997 and scored two top 30 (UK) hits.

Prior to Theaudience, Reeves had briefly been drummer for the bands Blow Up and The Grooveyard, and later formed indie band Congregation in the early 1990s.

Reeves signed to Sony Records with a new act ('Yours') in 1999. A near fatal car crash forced a hiatus in his career, but he returned in 2006 with the short-lived pop band Friends of the Bride.

Between 2000 and 2015 Thee Faction released 5 albums and gigged up and down the country. The BBC televised their Glastonbury set in 2015. Their last performance was in 2017.

Billy's next project, Sugar Coat, released 2 albums and they were awarded with a Guinness World Record following the release of the world's first playable jigsaw puzzle.

In 2021, Reeves released a new album called Afters under the pseudonym The Helicopter of the Holy Ghost and features Mark Morriss and Simon Raymonde.

Billy released his first solo album "Nostalgia Of The Future" in 2023. This was followed in 2024 by his second solo album "Steve" (The title track is a cover of the Eight Rounds Rapid song that was also released on Podrophenia records!). He is currently working on his third solo album.

At this event Billy Reeves will be performing songs from his solo albums with a few nods to tunes from earlier in his career.
