Celebrating the viola through the ages - from it being a different shape in the Medieval times, with Italian and English dance music, through to its gigantic proportions being slimmed down in the Baroque era. Discover the evolution of the viola and its role in music-making, from ensemble instrument to solo alto voice.
Join local violist Henri Hill for a recital-discussion and find some amazing solo viola music, both well-known and overlooked. From Medieval dance music, through Telemann, Bach, Vieuxtemps, Benjamin Britten, all the way to today's composers including David Matthews. Find some solo viola music to add to your repertoire.
Before the recital, Henri invites all violists of any age to come and share what they are learning in a relaxed session on stage at The Green Man Gallery - come and play at 6:30pm - recital starts 7pm.
