Description

Award-winning saxophonist and composer Sam Norris' quartet brings together some of the most creative young musicians on the London jazz scene- pianist Alex Wilson, double bassist John J. Williamson and drummer Harry Ling- to perform his original compositions.

The music fuses exploratory jazz improvisation, driving contemporary grooves and pensive classical chamber music. Weaving a captivating musical narrative, it showcases not only each musician?s virtuosity but also a deeply balanced approach to ensemble playing.

This concert celebrates the release of Sam's debut single, Un-ravel, with the Resonant Postcards Collective label on the 28th of June. His debut album Small Things Evolved Slowly, will be available this summer.

Hailing from Cambridge, Sam discovered his passion for jazz at 12 after hearing Coltrane's "A Love Supreme." Influenced by jazz greats like Charlie Parker and Thelonious Monk, he blends jazz with contemporary classical and hip-hop. He studied at the Royal Academy of Music. Now living in London he has played at notable venues across the UK and Europe. Sam won the Craig Ball prize for jazz saxophone in 2021 and was a finalist in the 2022 Musicians' Company Young Jazz Musician competition.
