The Spice of Life is a Soho landmark, historic music venue and is in the heart of London's West End.

Renowned for having a great live sound The Spice of Life and Substance have worked together for over 16 years to bring the very best new music to the heart of the capital.

"One of the best little venues in London" Evening Standard

The Line up

Mulveys Medicine
"You guys were fire" - Nigel Hall, Lettuce

"Administering Holistic Funk Treatment" - Leftbank, Bristol

"Acclaimed jazz funk band who have been killing it on the London scene"
Paper Dress Vintage, London

"Jaw-dropping beauty of jazz and vibrant high spirits of funk"
Jake Crossland - Too Many Blogs

Funk brothers from South-East London, Mulvey's Medicine's ethos is centred around providing fun, positivity and making people move, and this last year has taken its meaning to a whole new level. Following the success of their last few singles, notable 'The Jam Formerly Known As The Prince Jam' which gathered wide support in the UK funk and jazz scene, the funky combo are back with an EP mixing their trademark booty-shaking / foot-tapping funky instrumentals and some vocal features courtesy of some of London's best soulful singers joining the funk crusade. "I hope this EP will connect to everyone in a deep, personal way that is a gentle reminder that music can cure and uplift your life" says Eddie Mulvey, guitarist and founder.

The result is a vibrant mix of sounds and influences with blatant musicianship inspired by the works of Lettuce, Funkadelic, Parliament, Herbie Hancock, D'Angelo, Soulive, The Average White Band, George Benson, George Duke and many others.

George Alfie
George Alfie, Guildford born, is a singer/songwriter in the indie genre. After leaving school at 9 years old, George has used writing and performing as his way of connecting with people. Gaining popularity through his ardent lyricism and attention to detail, George has been able to play all over the UK, with multiple sold-out shows, and a growing fanbase who continue to be mesmerised by his story telling and the way he holds every stage he stands on. Starting out with busking, and pub venues, Alfie has gone on to open and play festivals in Hampshire, and Lancashire, as well as hosting many gigs around England, always giving new bands and artists opportunities to play. George describes himself as a mix between Sam Fender and Ben Howard, which you can hear particularly in his latest singles ?Aphrodite? (19,387 Spotify streams), ?Tell a Lie? (18,406 Spotify streams) and 'Night Creatures' (19,758 Spotify Streams).

Giving his unique take on life & relationships through his music, George delivers warming acoustic sets overflowing with heart and charm, as well as working with his bandmates to bring his originals to life with intricate guitar licks, and iconic drum fills. George's sets are also filled with some epic covers, that he and his band expertly rearrange, bringing a new spin to the music - 'Careless Whisper' being a fan favourite.

George wants to "create space for people to be seen, to make sure no one feels like a ghost in a room full of people". For George, this transcends beyond his gigs - through him and into his following, he shows that these feelings can be universal. "No one deserves to feel invisible"
