A Saturday night with vintage electric organ 'n' percussion mondo-jazz groovers Les Hommes! This night is part of the EFG London Jazz Festival!
The ace Les Hommes' visceral sounds explore exotica, Arabic figures, filmic motifs and '60s Rio-styled bossamba. They were key to the electric-organ-in-jazz renaissance of the 1990s, yet their take on the genre always veered from the obvious. Heavily influenced by the Brazilian sounds of the 1960s they mix intense percussion workouts with billowing organ refrains. Their move towards the vintage Lowrey organ (and the influence of Brit organ supremo Alan Haven and Brazil's Walter Wanderley) also distinguished them from the cognoscenti. For their performance tonight expect groovacious Rio bossamba, nods to 'library' jazz, rarified film music, and exotica.
DJ support on the night comes from the world-renowned duo The Karminsky Experience, whose record collection knows no ordinary bounds. For their all-vinyl show expect out-there jazz, soundtracks and the strangest and rarest cuts ? aimed at keeping you well and truly on the dancefloor.
