Description

The Land Beyond is an exciting new project from bassist and composer David Flanagan. It combines contemporary composition and improvisation into a new suite of music which explores the artist?s place within the physical environment. The inspiration for this suite comes from the journeys David makes to his family home on the Orkney Islands, passing through rugged environments and sprawling cities.
The Land Beyond creates a narrative based on past experiences and memories, and how they come to the forefront while moving through these landscapes. A multi-movement suite, it takes the listener from the city centre of Birmingham all the way to the ferry arriving on Orkney. The music evokes the uniqueness of each place and the experience of travelling through these contrasting environments.

David is joined by guitarist Phil Robson, whose mentorship and brilliant musicianship have helped realise the project, John Turville on piano and Johnathan Silk on drums. The group are presenting The Land Beyond as a complete suite followed by a second set of David?s original music composed over the last few years.
