The next Bossaphonik event is on Friday October 18th at which we?re going to be treated to the funkiest blend of modern Latin music in the land courtesy of The Mantecas!

This band are firm Latino favourites at Bossaphonik, having played a number of times. Their take on hard hitting urban Latin music takes in an eclectic array of styles including Latin-soul, funk, boogaloo, Latin jazz, cumbia and salsa. Particular focus is given to the music of the Nuyorican movement, a time when largely Puerto Rican, Hispanic and Latino communities living in New York fused soul and funk with salsa in the late 60?s and early 70?s.

The Mantecas are led by bassist Javier Fioramonti who approaches Latin music from a new direction, respecting these roots whilst incorporating many of the emerged urban forms of dance music, from the 60?s to the present day. They are a band reputed for bridging culture gaps and creating a mesmerising party mood everywhere they play, from Camden?s Jazz Cafe and The 606 club to Glastonbury and Tropical Pressure festivals.

Javier has spent his lifetime studying and exploring Latin music, he has been a part of renowned Scottish fusion band Salsa Celtica for 5 years and has played legendary international luminaries such as Joe Bataan, Henry Fiol and Camilo Azuquita also with many of London?s top salsa names such as Alex Wilson Salsa Orchestra. In The Mantecas, Javier has assembled a posse of some of the finest Latin musicians in London and for this gig we?ll be treated to the full 8 piece experience featuring piano virtuoso David Oliver, Cuban female vocalist Dunia Correa, a blistering full 3 part horn section and mesmerising drums and percussion.
