Genre : Music - Folk/blues/world

Description

A double-bill of two exciting solo singer-songwriter-guitarists for what promises to be a very special night.

Alex Seel is a familiar face at TwickFolk, having played here several times over the past few years. Music has led him from Devon to London to Ireland and back to London again. Through his wanderings, Alex has picked up a beautifully crafted, rootsy song-writing style with thought-provoking lyrics and finger-picked acoustic guitar trait. A contemporary twist on the British folksinger/guitarist, he has a growing reputation as a solo performer, having performed around the UK, Ireland, Italy, Germany and Spain. Alex's latest release is the critically acclaimed album All Sails To The Sun. He also picked up GSMC Best Single Award 2024 for the "No Goodbyes/Wishbone" double A-side, having been played by Cerys Matthews on BBC6, BBC Wales and BBC Scotland among many others.

The TwickFolk team first heard Heather Cartwright at the 2024 New Roots showcase for young folk performers, where we were captivated by her singing and intricate guitar work. Heather's musical style is an amalgamation of solo-fingerstyle, traditional Scottish rhythm guitar and song accompaniment. Years of dedication in the lead-up to and during her time at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland resulted in graduating with a first-class honours degree in traditional music. Though originally from Cumbria, Heather now bases herself in Glasgow's vibrant music scene. As well as presenting herself as a solo artist, Heather is in duos with Scots Singer of the Year (2022) Beth Malcolm, and Sam Mabbett (accordion), one of Scotland's most highly regarded musicians. She also regularly collaborates with other singers such Hannah Rarity (Young Traditional Musician of the Year, 2018) and Ainsley Hamill, both around Scotland and in Europe.
