The Real Music Club
*** 20th Anniversary Gig ***
The NIK TURNER/ JUDGE TREV BAND + The SOUTHERN SLAMDOOR BAND + DIRTY SCAVENGER
The Real Music Club celebrates its 20th anniversary. The first gig happened on 27th Jan 2005 at The Marlborough Theatre and featured The Las Vegas Mermaids, and Judge Trev with Jaki Windmill.
The club was originally founded by Judge Trev Thoms, Tim ?Slim Tim Slide? Rundall and Honkin? Stu McKay. They started the club to put on monthly gigs promoting original local bands and solo artists, making sure the majority of the door went to those performing, having found it difficult getting any decent paying gigs.
Since it formed, the club has promoted many local, and some out of town acts, and has also featured some legendary acts and performers, such as Nik Turner?s Inner City Unit, Mick Farren?s Last Men Standing (featuring ex Deviants/Pink Fairies Duncan ?Sandy? Sanderson and Russell Hunter), Steffe Sharpstring?s Sentient (which came out as a live CD), Johnny Moped, Edgar Broughton, Andy Roberts, Nick Harper, Johnny Moped (featuring Captain Sensible) etc etc
The club is a non-profit organisation, run by volunteers. Over the years, since Trev, Tim and Stu started the club, committee members have included Tim Dowling, Roy Weard, Cliff Dowding, Nik Nimbus, Jay Bee, Tim Burness, Tony Bowell, Gregg McKella, Neal Rogers etc and the club members are now Joe Bridge, Sean Wallis, Tristian Watson-o'brien.
Over the years, the RMC have put on many benefit nights, including gigs for Cardiacs Tim Smith, Gong?s daevid Allen, and our yearly memorial gigs to co-founder Judge Trev, where proceeds, as with this gig, going to BHCR (Brighton & Hove Community Radio) and to PANCREATIC CANCER UK.
Line up!
The Nik Turner/Judge Trev Tribute Band 9.45 - 11pm
We welcome back ICU Nazar Ali Khan on bass, Martin Litmus on lead guitar, along with Gregg McKella, Kev Ellis, and Richard Lanchester plus guests.
The band will be playing the Judge and ThunderRider?s classics.
The Southern Slamdoor Band 8.45 - 9.25pm
A special blues ensemble featuring Honkin? Stu on harp and vocals, Andy Power from Sumerian Kyngs on bass, Ryan Bollard from Column 258 on drums and Louise Maggs from Tex and the Lonestars on guitar, which had been put together especially for Tim Rundall's memorial gig in November 2022 playing classic blues.
The band continued to play, following this lovely memorial gig to Tim, and now playing their own original material. They have played various esteemed blues festivals including Wotton Under Edge Blues Festival and the Broadstairs Blues Bash.
Dirty Scavenger 8 to 8.30pm
Dirty Scavenger spent her late teenage years living on the streets, scavenging for food using music, & developing her vocal, guitar & songwriting skills.
Dirty Scavenger's music is dark, raw, and full of angst. Influenced by Jo's many life experiences and by some of the greatest rock bands of all time, she writes songs with dark melodic guitar riffs and deep and meaningful, soulful lyrics, and conveys them with precision on the guitar and powerful raw vocals. Often described by many as mesmerizing to watch.

Description
The Brunswick has been transformed through an extensive refurbishment programme to become the premier music and arts venue in Hove. The owners are committed to providing quality, value for money and a friendly atmosphere. We believe that a pub is an essential part of any thriving community, and should be seen as a facility for the whole community. By encouraging local groups, we run a range of classes: acting, singing, painting, language, wine tasting; and have become a meeting place for a number of groups. With a large garden and a number of meeting rooms, we can offer space for most clubs, societies or social groups. If your looking for somewhere to host your book group, yoga class, dance class, debating club, and so on, give us a call, or better still, pop in. Support your local pub.
Built in the 1930’s, The Brunswick is a striking building with curved bays, turret roofs and brass crittall style windows. Much of the original paneling (the same as used in the Orient Express) has been rescued and restored, particularly in The Venue. Atmosphere and mood change as you move from the beautifully constructed sunny garden through the airy garden room to the bar (a fusion of the best of modern bar and traditional pub). Despite the high-tech sound and stage equipment, the music and arts Venue with its wood paneling, period lighting and fireplace retains a wonderfully cozy feel. Upstairs we have beautifully decorated rooms for meetings and private parties – see Function Room Hire
We offer a broad range of home cooked food every day. Accolades have included “Restaurant quality food at pub prices”; “The best Sunday Lunch in Brighton”; “As an American, I’m very critical of hamburgers – this is one of the best I’ve had anywhere.”
