Rock N Roll Book Club tonight explores two new books from Spenwood Books, The Clash and The Jam being the two subjects?a pair of bands very much uttered in the same breath back in the heady days of 1977, and still now for that matter. They go together like a pint of Guinness and a bag of Tatos (available at the bar, natch).
All The Young Punks by Iian Key is an oral history of The Clash in the words of over 300 fans, from their beginnings to the very end. With a forward by mega Clash and Jam fan Billy Bragg (and chief architect in the Jail Guitar Doors prison programme). Rock N Roll Book Club+Clash Vs Jam!+Circa 79+Q and A+Punk and New Wave Disco!
Spenwood head honcho Richard Houghton will join the author and chairman Tony Gleed on stage to discuss all aspects of the book, and invite questions from the floor. Indeed our panel will be exploring both books this evening.
Malcolm Wyatt?s Solid Bond In Your Heart. A People?s History of The Jam will hit the streets and online stores very soon too, and we warmly welcome Malcolm to the discussion. A fascinating evening no doubt, revolving around an era and a pair of bands very dear to the hearts of proper music fans young and old.
Luckily you can also relive those glory years tonight, thanks to our Punk and New Wave Disco, overseen by one Tone Trash throughout the night, and then, to top things off gloriously, with the fabulous Circa 79, a band whose storming live set encompasses all the classics you could wish for by both bands, plus other killer tunes from the era of a punk, new wave, post punk and 2 tone type. Brilliant! (And as C79 drummer and celebrated DJ Griff Griffiths always says?you can?t have The Clash without having The Jam! Hitsville UK?That?s Entertainment!

The Dublin Castle is a legendary pub and music venue located 2 minutes away from Camden Town tube station. It has been run by the same family for over 28 years and features 4 live bands every night as well as a great selection of beers, ciders and wines.
There are DJs after the bands on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays and a fabulous jukebox in the front bar if you’re after a more relaxed atmosphere.
But what is it that makes the Dublin Castle the long-standing centre of the indie rock universe? Is it because it’s Madness’ birthplace? Because its stage has been graced by everyone from Blur, through Coldplay, Supergrass, The Killers, The Arctic Monkeys, Billy Bragg, etc? Is it because it was no surprise to see Amy Winehouse behind the bar serving costumers? Or Suggs? (who, mind you, tended to ignore costumers and serve himself) Or is it because far from being just another Camden venue it has established itself as an indie rock institution? The answer is that it’s not only because of its musical heritage that people come to the Dublin Castle, it’s because whilst you enjoy a pint, play some tunes on the jukebox, check out the live bands, get your dancing shoes on for our DJs, chat to our friendly staff or even stage-invade a little, you’re inadvertently being part of this movement the Dublin Castle leads, this cultural legacy. Expect no castle battlements. Just pure rock and roll royalty.
