The Secret History of Shrewsbury House and Shooters Hill
at
Shrewsbury House
London
18:30
Description
Eighty years ago during World War Two Shrewsbury House was at the heart of the Government's efforts to protect the people of Woolwich from bombing and ultimately even from the threat of invasion. This was a role it maintained well into the Cold War.
In this talk archaeologist and historian Andy Brockman will show you the documents, photographs and the evidence which survives on and in the ground, to tell the story of how one of the most consequential periods in recent history can still be traced in our community today.
As we debate the future of the World War Two building at 28 Mereworth Drive, he will also discuss how organisations like Shrewsbury House can help to conserve and share stories about the past which made us as we attempt also to build our future.
