Independent Country
Independent Country are 6 indie-rock vets from Birmingham, with a long history of Peel sessions and sticky dancefloors behind them, who finally saw the light a few years ago and decided to head way down South, to Nashville in fact. As part of their messianic mission, they've decided to convert your favourite indie disco classics, from the likes of Flaming Lips, Pixies, Happy Mondays, Arctic Monkeys (and even Dinosaur Jr), into country and western barn dance floor-fillers.
Floppy fringes and baggy jeans are swapped for pedal steel guitars and four part harmonies as the NME meets the Grand Ole Opry. You ain't heard nothing like this!
Independent Country have taken a few years to perfect their craft and this year have been in demand for festival appearances at Shiiine On, Bearded Theory and Moseley Folk. World domination is clearly on the cards, so you should take this opportunity to catch their first appearance in the Preston. Saddle up your ponies and say hello to the best gang in town!

Walter Mitty's Head
Walter Mitty's Head from East Lancashire form the second part of this Tuff Life Boogie Americana special, and mine 50s rockabilly and 60s garage beat for their inspiration. Anyone who caught their barn-storming set at The Ferret supporting the Primevals in February will know that this band are a force to be reckoned with and not to be missed.
The Continental was Camra West Lancashire Pub of the Year 2010 & 2011, with a range of six changing ales, including a house beer especially brewed for us by Marble Beers, artisan ciders, speciality European and US beers both on tap and in bottle, award-winning wines from Byrne’s of Clitheroe, a great range of soft drinks and the best beer garden in town.
Our regional, seasonal kitchen serves up restaurant quality fresh food with daily specials and favourites, and we’re the indie culture venue of choice in Preston with cinema, theatre, music and more on weekly in our arts space.
Situated on the banks of the Ribble, just a brief walk away from the city centre and adjacent to picturesque park land, The Continental is an oasis of fine food, drinks and atmosphere. We hope to see you sometime soon.
